What is the Real 2020?
The Real is Southern California InterVarsity’s annual gathering of Black students that challenges students in lordship, mission on campus, and discipleship. It is being held February 7-8, 2019, in Covina (in Greater Los Angeles).
What happens at The Real?
Students will interact in relevant worship, hear powerful messages, and build community with one another. On Friday night, we will also hold an open-mic café, allowing students to showcase their talents. For many Black students, there are too few opportunities to gather with a large number of other Black Christian students for spiritual influence, community, and input. Therefore, The Real is a safe space to share, discuss, pray and express the many issues facing the black community in America today.
I'm not Black, can I come?
This conference is intended to gather, build community, inspire and empower Black Students. There are a handful of volunteer opportunities available.
Where is The Real?
The sessions will take place at First Presbyterian Church of Covina, 310 N 2nd Avenue, Covina, CA 91723.
How much does it cost?
The conference fee is $100 and there is a NON-REFUNDABLE deposit of $30 when you register online. The deposit must be paid by credit card online and your remainder balance can be paid in cash, check (written to InterVarsity) or venmo when you check into the conference.
Are there scholarships available?
All scholarship requests must be handled through the campus, Area, or Division. Contact your campus staff leader for scholarship requests.
When does the Real start?
Registration begins at 6pm and the conference begins at 7pm. Please account for Friday Los Angeles traffic in your driving and come to the conference having eaten dinner.
Where will we sleep?
Your registration fee includes 1 night stay on Friday night. Students will sleep 3 or 4 to a room at a local hotel. Though the room will have 2 double beds, we will put up to four students to a room. Therefore, please bring extra blankets and sleeping bags.
What meals are covered at the conference?
Dinner won't be provided on Fri. night so you can grab some with your friends or bring your own before the conference begins. On Saturday, breakfast will be provided by the hotel. You are on your own for lunch and we will provide dinner for all registrants.
Can I register AFTER Jan 31st?
If there is still space available for the conference, you can still register but there will be a late fee and the conference will cost $120.
